Bob's Favourite Spins 2025

Favourite Spins of 2025 All right... here we go. 2025 was a slowly burning shitshow politically, and this definitely required me to look for tunes that provided a real escape from things. Below are some of my most-played tracks or albums. This list is very gnarly. Let's go0oo0000ooooo.... Surgeon - Shell~Wave : This DJ Maestro offers another banger album. It is a well-crafted colllection of 'techno', dashed with deep house, dub/dubstep, with many tracks designed for the club (or dancing alone with your headphones... in the dark... in your basement suite... of your parents... when everyone else is asleep... and you have to get up at 6 am ... and its 2 am and you're still up... and you want to move). This album could have been made 30 years ago (but it would have taken 20 years to make the sounds you can hear with a click of a button today). if the opening track doesn't draw you in, you're an ugly bag of water without a soul. Daniel Avery - Tremor : The reviews ...

Bob’s favorite spins 2024

In no particular order. Alberto Balsalm & Mathilde Nobel - One Way Trip to Gaia Holy Tongue & Shackleton - The Tumbling Psychic Joy of Now Godspeed You! Black Emperor  Melvins - Tarantula Heart Plant43 - The Sentient City Awakens Influences IV (DJ Mix) - CAIV Mdou Moctar - Funeral for Justice

Bob's Favourite spins of 2022

In no particular order. Ryoji Ikeda - Ultrasonics. Oh my. Ikeda's most listenable album to date. This is a banger at the 26-minute mark. I love his dedication to art and his explanation of data and sound. Visual and auditory artist. Favorite experience. DJ Pythons - Mas Amable. I had this on repeat a lot. I mean A LOT. It is one of the most consistent-sounding albums I've heard in the last several years. DJ Python provides an earthy sound with heavy influences of reggae and African rhythms in a deep house sound. It is the sound of sex, with a non-stop consistent BPM that blends each track into a 49-minute hypnotic trance. ADMSDP (feat. LA Warman) leaves chills down the spine, with equally confused infusions of ASMR babble. Check out a sample . Also my favorite this year (because I can have 2). Cousin - Second Message. Also my favorite, in the subset of music production. This also has similar deep jungle sounds like DJ Python, but with a twist of fun. If Disting doesn't...

Bob’s Favourite Spins of 2021

In no particular order... ok a bit of an order Jeff Mills & Rafael Leafar - The Override Switch . Brilliant mixing! Imagine a lucid journey through percussive jazz with breakbeats. The River Runs Five Ways leaves a earworm trail the size of Shai’Hulud. CV Vision Tropical - full of crazy backbeats, analogue, and samples.  The KLF Solid State Logic - because I say so . The justified ancients of Monitor Units are gonna rock you. Cabaret Voltaire - Shadow of Fear - Sentimental pick. One cannot quantify the influence this single band had, ranging from the bumpin 808 dance vibe, Detroit, eclectic electo jazz, industrial, and R&B. This album is such a throw back and somewhat fitting given the dystopia+hysteria of today.  Rest in Power    Richard H. Kirk. There will never be another. Sufjan Stevens- Convocations... its ok but oddly similar to Enos Opus Music for Installations released a few years back (see my previous 2018 review ) Umwelt - Fear of a Dark Planet EP...

Bob’s favourite spins of 2020

Bob’s favourite spins of 2020 Yes. 2020 was a shit-show. It was a crap-crepe filled with maggots, topped off with hair clippings from Donald. But... there was music. Music kept me from going completely bananas. While my musical tastes include pretty much anything but pop-country genres, these rankings are mostly electronic / hiphop / experimental / hard rock / ambient favours. No, there is no Taylor Swift. I would LOVE to hear your top 10 irrespective of your musical tastes. Enjoy. Yves Tumor - Heaven to a Tortured Mind. I don't know what it was about this album that just hit the spot on so many emotions. You might have heard the highly addictive Kerosene! but I think my favourite track on the album is Asteroid Blues which has this super funky space jam and wicked bass line. Also a big fan of Medicine Burn which sounds like a gentle car crash. Super album. Thundercat - It is what it is. Man... the falsetto 70s vibe with gnarly 6 string bass is absolutely nuts. The production le...

Bobs Favourite Spins of 2018

Bob’s favourite spins of 2018 Below are some thoughts on my favourite vibes of 2018. The list is sourced from the largest number of plays, plus some personal biases. While my musical tastes include pretty much anything but pop-country genres, these rankings are mostly electronic/hiphop/experimental/hard rock/ambient favours. I would LOVE to hear your top 10 irrespective of your musical tastes. Enjoy. Susumu Yokota - Dreamer. This ones a keeper and approaching ‘desert island album’ status. Breakbeats, club thumpers and ambiance cuddled with Asian vibes. ‘ Legendary Stream ’ features a magical bansuri taking you to the middle of a rainforest, and offers you the closest thing to a hug music could give. Yokata had a knack for ‘less is more’ and his subtlety will be missed. RIP. https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/dreamer/1355880354 Morphology - Traveller. This album has some serious sombre and intentional kickers most notably Second Light and Hidden Variable . Most electronic album...
